Marina and the Diamonds – The Outsider

August 27, 2009

A new song by Marina and the Diamonds to whet fans’ appetites for the most hotly anticipated debut album released next year (yes, we know, already). The title alone lets you know that this isn’t I’m A Slave 4 U Part 2. The Bell Jar-esque ‘The Outsider’ is a song letting you inside the outsider, the one that’s always “sitting on the outside observing the fun”. No one at the moment is singing songs this personal and from the perspective of an independent woman with no man or love anywhere near it. “Spilt the milk at breakfast hit me double hard” epitomises the song, showing a woman breaking down at something so small, it happens to us every day yet nobody sings about it. It’s also undoubtedly accessible and pop.

We have so much more we want to write about Marina and the Diamonds but more on that some other time.

Hear it here.
