The Saturdays – Wordshaker
Let’s all sigh a collective sigh of relief that the rumour about The Saturdays calling their second album Colonial Masses was just a cruel joke, even though it would have been a tiny bit hilarious. The first single, Forever is Over has just debuted at No.2. We liked it but if you didn’t like it then don’t worry because it isn’t an indicator of the sound of the album at all. The album is a balanced mixture of mid-tempo ballads and massive electro pop tracks.
Here Standing is a big rumbly piano number reminiscent of big American noughties pop ballads. Ego tells some idiot that he “need to have a sit down with your ego”. The album gets in to full swing halfway through – the point where most albums fall apart. One Shot is reminiscent of Britney Spears’ Stronger. Title track and album highlight Wordshaker has a massive chorus. Lose Control is another great electro number with the line “I should be the face of every fashion magazine” just before the chorus. Interestingly on Deeper, a nice ballad, The Saturdays have a songwriting credit on it.
Overall the album is very good. There are some ballads that you can skip but there are also some massive songs on here and thankfully this album proves that there is a place for The Saturdays as this album provides something different from other girlgroups at the moment. So, as we said, it’s very good.
