Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart

The second single from Alicia Keys’ fourth album The Element of Freedom is a Nothing Compares 2 U-esque 80s influenced ballad.  It’s sparse, heartbreaking and the lyrics are very straightforward and honest and it’s beautiful because of it. It’s about Alicia falling completely in love with someone who says they love her back and then it turns out he’s lying and then she has to get over it and it’s hard. MEN, EH? Lyrics range from despair (“You know I’ll always be in love with you”) to hope (“Tonight I’m going to find a way to make it without you”). It’s a lovely song that a lot of people will be able to relate with and she sounds incredible on it.
