Sky Ferreira

The first thing everyone should know about 17 year old Sky Ferreira is that she’s made Michael Jackson cry. Not because she’s a humongous bully but because of her lovely voice. That to us is amazing. She’s been very busy working with producers such as Bloodshy and Avant (Britney), Paul Epworth (Annie), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen), Dallas Austin (Sugababes) and Teddybears (Robyn) for her debut album. No, this isn’t a dream where we’ve picked our favourite producers over the past decade and forced them to work on one album for one lucky competition winner or something, this is actually happening. So obviously for all these amazing producers to be working with an unknown, she must be pretty special, right? Well, boringly enough, at the moment only time (and more songs being put up on her MySpace) will tell. But she’s made Michael Jackson cry because of her voice!

So far the songs have been good, except for Lolita which was a bit of a misfire, but haven’t been the huge pop sound you’d expect from these sort of producers but they definitely suit her voice which isn’t a huge diva wail or so weak it needs autotuning but something more interesting and soulful in the middle. A look at her Twitter or MySpace might scare you off if the sight of hipster poses and Peaches Geldof puts you off your breakfast but hopefully this whole project will work, she’ll become something more than an ‘alternative’ fashion mag darling and it won’t be a case of too many cooks.
